It is a curious set of proposals. The sport is desperate for money, which means exposure and if anyone wanted to throw money at it "as it is" they would have done so by now, so no change is not an option.
A lot of what I am hearing about is the integrity of the competition; but in reality that is slightly less important than creating a spectacle people will watch at a corporate and commercial level. Watching F1 for example is a dreadful spectacle, you watch it on a screen even when you're there and god knows about their application of the rules! Golf is awful on the course. Darts you ONLY watch on a screen unless you're playing or the referee. However all those sports have huge commercial and corporate attractions RL does not, most clubs you could ring a week before most games and get a table of 4 for corp hosp.
IMG are proposing something to sustain bigger fish, the NRL has had numerous wooden spoon winners over the years and that competition is unabashed in it's growth.
I don't have the answers 14 teams, 2 divisions and a proper season of home and away feels right. A magic round, fine, that is a winner but not as an extra fixture, find a way of making it part of the season. P&R either IS or ISN'T there, you can't have a few with a pass and some without.
Personally, I think the appropriate facilities should be part of the package, I did before in the licensing period and do now. We got away with it on jazz hands before and promises. Pains me to say it but in the intervening 20 years, other than lament our lack of facilities, we haven't moved on and others locally have and are. The funding and efforts might be questionable, but at least it is something.
