Like I’ve explained before, not sure on here though, Salford are out with the begging bowl.

The club are owned now by supporters and last year begged them to buy shares, which they did and cleaned out their fans, then they got the council to give them money to pay bills, then they got the council to buy the ground and will let them play for peanuts there. Now they need an advancement on RFL monies to continue to pay staff including players.

They should be made to sort their own mess, sell players or whatever is needed. Or sport doesn’t have enough in reserves to do this and if they do it for one, they must do it for all.

I am broadly in agreement with you @RaoulDuke if they’re not capable of self-managing the season (again) then they’re not fit for SL I am afraid. That should be a minimum requirement.

Our own club, and others have suffered on the field for financial issues and had to operate within parameters. As should Salford.

mdean we’ve suffered on the field as we’ve had stadium requirements to hit. The frightening thing now is that when we do our rebuild, we’ll lose points and may lose our place in the league. So I guess, don’t do the work and stay in but thats not the aim of the IMG rules. Between a rock and hard place.

I’m expecting the rules to change and less impetus on being the first call on use of your ground but better facilities.

Surely that should knock the grade IMG gave to the club as they’re not financially stable and as such Toulouse would probably be promoted?

Becoming a yearly thing where Salford are the ones always asking for advances on cash. At some point you have to wonder if they’re viable.

Matt Last year we cut out cloth to suit our needs and ensure our survival under IMG,we made a conscious decision to run with a weaker squad for what proved to be the greater good. Salford seemed neither able or more importantly willing to compromise on field performances for financial security and now for the umpteenth time they’re suffering the consequences. You only have to look at their retentions and signings for next season to see they’re not learning from their mistakes and will be relying on hand outs once again to survive. As a club using this model they are unsustainable,

RaoulDuke Attendances will be vital for our score again,there are still a few tweaks we can use to gain points such as the LED advertising boards and I thought MJ had held back on some investment so we wouldn’t drop what we gained this year,could be wrong on that one. With regard to Salford be interesting to see what’s announced Monday,can’t believe they’re doing this after the signings they announced,mind if they have to have a fire sale 😉

Salford have played a blinder, waiting for the fixtures to be announced so they cant be punished correctly without causing serious disruptions.
In my opinion they should be booted and the next high grade team promoted

Salford have put out a statement moaning about the release of their begging. The other clubs are going to make a decision Monday.

They blame the slow local council for not allowing them to play quicker at their virtual rent free stadium and earn sponsorship whilst their council are closing services to do it.

their few fans on X are deluded, apparently they are in trouble because the RFL changed the rules in favour of Cas and Wakey after Salford had sold the Willows, maybe we will get the points deduction.

So now the RFL are propping Salford up, why didnt they help Whitehaven recently
Would we get the same help? I know Wakey didnt when they were in the brown stuff
It makes me wonder how Salford conned IMG and would they have escaped if the fixtures hadnt been released?

I think my main problem is that if we needed money we could sell players, get a loan, mortgage the ground etc… We have put ourselves in this position with much pain over the years.

The weakness of the IMG system is that you only need players and somewhere to play. Salford, Huddersfield and others have nothing of value, as the players contracts are null and void if they don’t get paid. So where’s the jeopardy?

I’ve not read te details on what the RFL/SL have agreed but we do need to give some context.

Firstly, I do not support the decisoin to provide the requested advance payment of ‘expected’ funds but it is just that. The money they have recived is not an additional payment to bail them out. Is is an advance payment of monies they would have received at some stage in the forthcoming season.

Salford are sayng the current economic enviroment, combined with their ‘lease’ agreement for the AJ Bell has meant they are currently receiving very little inncome and only need the advance payment to see tem through to the active season.

I still believe this constitutes poor financial management and nothing should be done that give Slaford a distin ct advantage over other clubs who are rightly controlling their spending, based on income.

I can only hope the RFL/SL are truly monitoring the situation and will put a stop to any new signings untl such time as Salford can actually afford them without additonal credit/debt.

The fact that they are struggling is because of the rental agreement they negotiated. Now they can’t afford it until they are able to lease the ground on a peppercorn rent which the rate payers have to make up as well as the millions to buy and maintain the stadium.

As a kid I remember my Mum getting eggs and bread from the milkman on a Wednesday,it was more expensive than the shops but he didn’t need paying till the Friday when she got paid. She used to call it “kick it down the road a bit” Can’t help but think Salford are doing the same,a false economy that will come back and bite you. Ok for a skint housewife but a professional rugby club?
