stuey One of them. “Players shall not encroach within 10m of an opponent who is waiting for the ball and shall immediately retire from any opponent who first secures the ball.” Seems as it means no challenging the receiver now when kicks ahead. No point in doing them now is there!! Players just have to stand 10 yds away and let the player take the kick.
Maturecasfan Surely the player who put the kick in can go compete for the ball. Like you say, what’s point in doing them.
pirate I think the IRL board are just trying to justify their salaries, why complicate the game? https://www.rugby-league.com/article/64458/amendments-to-the-international-laws-of-the-game-approved-by-irl-board#:~:text=The%20following%20Laws%20have%20been,awarded%20against%20the%20offending%20team CTID
stuey The full backs are going to have an easy number now. No oppo player challenging for high kicks, no one within 10 yds. Ridiculous.
CurtisTigers I assume that this is referring to offside players only? In which case this was always the rule until recently, where for some reason they’ve allowed offside players to encroach within the 10m and only penalise if challenging for the ball. The kicker and anyone behind him can still challenge, offside players have to stay 10m away from the catcher. Completely agree with this rule.
Hepworth Can’t see any material change, you’re behind the kicker you can challenge,in front him and you can’t,pretty much always been the case, nuance in how it’s written but little else.
stuey Is it referring to off-side players only though? It does not state that in the rule. If it is as before why state it as a rule change as that has always been the case.
Hepworth stuey All down to interpretation given as ever the RFL have once again surpassed themselves by making it as clear as mud.
