pirate Be a great start,given his current salary and needing to remain within the salary cap I’d assume he’d be a marquis player. Mat Croker would probably fall into the same category,there were rumours about him last season but he signed a one year extension to stay in the NRL. Be a real statement of intent if we could even get one of them. But if we’re going to go down the Marquis route we desperately need a half back.

It`s a start, just need another 10 or 12 high quality players to join him. At the moment, assuming Amone goes, we have about 6 maximum who are SL standard, Hoy, Rooney, Senior, Quarequare, Lawler & Mellor. The rest would struggle to get into any of the Championship teams.. Two centres, 2 half-backs, and 6 forwards are the minimum we need.

Can’t see any way we’ll be getting 10 players in for next season even though we probably need that many. All of Stueys list have contracts for next season with the exception of Lawler so that’s a decent start. George is one of seven out of contract at the end of the season but the only one I’d want to see renewed, Simms maybe as a squad player. Westy been a great servant but maybe had his time and the rest Milnes included just aren’t good enough. So unless we’re going to pay some off early I’d say six new faces max unless we get some more significant investment. Rooney once fit again is one of the best youngsters out there,Matveyev and Windley are knocking on the door. A couple of Marquis signings would be a dream but that wouldn’t leave much to spend on the rest of the squad. Not all doom and gloom but then you remember who’s in charge of recruitment. 🤷🏼

I’d expect us to bring players in but it’ll take time. The next problem is whose players are they. If they are DMs players then they might not fit should his way of playing not work and he gets the boot. We don’t know if Mr Jepson is a kneejerk reactor or takes advice and takes time to decide. I suppose that’s why Chester is believed to be coming in. Mr Jepson can bring in and get rid of players whenever if he’s prepared to spend the money and we are doing it at the moment to some extent, ala Namo. This is going to take time but it needs the right people to take advice from.

Definitely a new coach. If your up to it McGuire would have least improved the team, which he asnt. We could have the Aussie national team and McGuire would take it backwards. I’ve seen more heart, spirt, motivation and structure down at lock lane. McGuire is out of his depth. He should have started in the championship and work is way up.

Hearing Horne on his way out. Was awesome last year but playing reserves now. I think he’d make the right 13 but does DM.

Rumour I heard was that he had to put on weight to play for PNG as he wouldn’t get in at hooker. So a backrower/13. Can’t/won’t lose it and the coaching staff aren’t happy. If Mr Jepson is convinced with DM being the man then I can’t fault him for backing him 100%. Powell got the same backing and did well.

Maturecasfan Apologies MCF I think my original post disappeared in the hiccup and as things are changing so quickly I didn’t repost. A source close to an agent said they were confident of doing a deal for two uk based non quota players,that deal hasn’t been done due to Cas exploring avenues elsewhere which would appear to be accurate given Chris Chester’s comments during his interview yesterday. One more major signing has knock on effects down the line in terms of cap space.

Maturecasfan I think you can add Horne into that mix,tricky because we aren’t blessed with centres while we have options at full back and hooker. Apparently QQ fancies himself in the centres but not sure our coach would. Valamei can play centre and wing but is more natural out wide and Ravalawa is an out and out winger. For all our strengthening there are still weaknesses which are no doubt being addressed. I’d rather see Hoy go if we get a halfback. And I’d swap Horne for a decent prop at the drop of a hat.

pirate Cini is a wholehearted player who gives it all,Hoy probably more naturally talented but can go missing,a choice between the two i would take the substance over the style and from a team perspective we have options at full back but really need that half back.

Mustapha the latest confirmed exit,I liked his attitude but he was a bit betwixt and between,didn’t really have the size at prop or the ball handling skills for anywhere else. Shame really as seems a wholehearted lad,maybe find a home in the Championship.

I’d heard we had a couple of non quota players ready to sign but it stalled when we were chasing Weaver who wouldn’t have been cheap,clearly we haven’t been able to free up a quota spot to allow that to happen so maybe we will relook at those other guys,problem being one of those who I believe was from Featherstone is now on other clubs radar

We have a new owner and he wants the best players he can get.

Between Carr and Chester they decided muzzy, innes and wood aren’t good enough. Tbh you have to agree with them.

Mr Jepson and Chester said they still had plenty of salary cap to play with, we now have more. I’m looking forward to who’s coming in as they must be better.

RaoulDuke I agree that we need to look for better, that much isn’t in doubt. However where are they coming from? We have a full quota and anyone left who left from that would be classed as decent anyway. The remaining off contract list in super league is sparse, with quality even thinner on the ground. And other clubs are unlikely to be letting their good players go. We run the risk of not having either quality or quantity if we are not careful.

TheFirm players in contract can be paid up and released. It’s costly but that’s what we’re doing.

I think we’ll get a half back in and we don’t need Horne as we have enough hookers. That’s easily done.

Is Cini good enough, I haven’t seen enough from him to say he’s a better option than Nene McDonald or Esan Masters younger yes, but not their level yet if ever.

Taafe is a great fullback but Hoy is very good on his day. We also have Rooney as cover. Maybe an option there.

So, a halfback for Hoy, a centre for Horne and then keep Cini. Bring in Dezaria for muzzy, Macintosh for innes. That leaves an overseas spot.

It’s actually nice for once for us to be spending cap and still getting players out who aren’t good enough but at extra cost (not salary cap though). Next year we won’t need to pay anyone off and can spend purely on building better Mr Jepson is putting his money on the line like we’ve not seen before, I hope the support comes back in droves.

RaoulDuke Problem is Jepson said at the meet the directors that any of the remaining overseas players that don’t want to leave will stay. The strong talk now is Hoy wants to now stay and Horne never wanted to leave in the first place. Doesn’t leave us much room for manoeuvre given the lack of English options.

Can’t believe we’d be paying off players unless we had replacements waiting in the wings,MJ too astute for that,nor do I think we’ll be paying players off in full,amounts are usually negotiated and suit both parties. All I believe we are doing is releasing players who have no future at the club who otherwise would simply see out the remainder of their contract from the sidelines,this way may cost but will accelerate the rate at which we can progress. It might be necessary to bring in players outside our preferred age profile if they will bring short term gain and allow time for others to matured. Short term it might seem poor business sense but longer term could well pay dividends and MJ would appear invested for that longer term. Also demonstrating that ruthlessness to the squad as a whole will clearly demonstrate if you’re not putting a 100% in you won’t be carried.
