pirate Be a great start,given his current salary and needing to remain within the salary cap I’d assume he’d be a marquis player. Mat Croker would probably fall into the same category,there were rumours about him last season but he signed a one year extension to stay in the NRL. Be a real statement of intent if we could even get one of them. But if we’re going to go down the Marquis route we desperately need a half back.

It`s a start, just need another 10 or 12 high quality players to join him. At the moment, assuming Amone goes, we have about 6 maximum who are SL standard, Hoy, Rooney, Senior, Quarequare, Lawler & Mellor. The rest would struggle to get into any of the Championship teams.. Two centres, 2 half-backs, and 6 forwards are the minimum we need.

Can’t see any way we’ll be getting 10 players in for next season even though we probably need that many. All of Stueys list have contracts for next season with the exception of Lawler so that’s a decent start. George is one of seven out of contract at the end of the season but the only one I’d want to see renewed, Simms maybe as a squad player. Westy been a great servant but maybe had his time and the rest Milnes included just aren’t good enough. So unless we’re going to pay some off early I’d say six new faces max unless we get some more significant investment. Rooney once fit again is one of the best youngsters out there,Matveyev and Windley are knocking on the door. A couple of Marquis signings would be a dream but that wouldn’t leave much to spend on the rest of the squad. Not all doom and gloom but then you remember who’s in charge of recruitment. 🤷🏼

I’d expect us to bring players in but it’ll take time. The next problem is whose players are they. If they are DMs players then they might not fit should his way of playing not work and he gets the boot. We don’t know if Mr Jepson is a kneejerk reactor or takes advice and takes time to decide. I suppose that’s why Chester is believed to be coming in. Mr Jepson can bring in and get rid of players whenever if he’s prepared to spend the money and we are doing it at the moment to some extent, ala Namo. This is going to take time but it needs the right people to take advice from.

Definitely a new coach. If your up to it McGuire would have least improved the team, which he asnt. We could have the Aussie national team and McGuire would take it backwards. I’ve seen more heart, spirt, motivation and structure down at lock lane. McGuire is out of his depth. He should have started in the championship and work is way up.

Rumour I heard was that he had to put on weight to play for PNG as he wouldn’t get in at hooker. So a backrower/13. Can’t/won’t lose it and the coaching staff aren’t happy. If Mr Jepson is convinced with DM being the man then I can’t fault him for backing him 100%. Powell got the same backing and did well.

As the wait goes on for our new leader can’t help but wonder what he’s thinking. Obviously he’ll have done his due diligence,watched the videos,looked at what we need,no doubt discussed it with a few fellow professionals and started to formulate a plan. Then he sees the Leeds debacle,listens to Chris Chester’s post match comments about effort,commitment and swinging the axe,makes a few notes about the comments about fitness and conditioning, then adds another few lines to his wish list,you couldn’t blame him.

The new coach will see that it’s a new start, mostly new players, properly funded with aspirations to get better and become at least a playoff side. A chance to mold a team and a culture. A chance to be the main man and create his own future.

Or risk missing the opportunity if a lifetime. Lam has it at Leigh and has become a legend there. We can do even better.

Can’t believe this guy gets paid for writing this tosh,seen a couple of names,cobbled together a couple of guesses and thrown it out there. Yes a couple of the incoming personnel will be correct but second guessing what a coach is going to do with them when he isn’t even here yet is ridiculous. A couple of those players probably won’t even be at the club and a couple not mentioned will be. It’s just idle speculation and twaddle.

Problem is you can’t just ‘get rid of the rest’ without players to replace them and enough better ones just aren’t out there to recruit in one transfer cycle, especially with the league increasing to 14 teams. You need a squad of 30 at least plus some youngsters, so some of this years first choice will have to move to squad fillers in 2026 with a view to moving them on in for the season after. Guys like Singleton, Atkins, Senior etc will fill a squad player role with better first choice players ahead of them. That in itself makes us better as a whole.

Forwards — ok in the 2nd row with Mellor & Lawler. Who else?

Need a loose forward, 2 hookers/utility players and 4 props, 2 of them big “go forward impact” props like Lisone who can come on after 30 minutes and wreak havoc.

Have we signed any forwards yet for next season? Apart from Lawler and Mellor none of the current batch are worth a place.

stuey Stimpson will still be with us next season and of course we’ll have Greacen (SR/LF)alongside the pretty strong rumours of Ashworth(FR) Atoni(FR) and Lane (SR) Am thinking Atoni would be your impact from the bench. Room for one more maybe,depending on departures. With the backs, Hoy I would think starting FB,Cini and the rumoured Valamei in the centres with Ravalawa and Qareqare on the wing. Unless we sign another half I think that’s where Taaffe will end up alongside Asi.Taaffe was also a goal kicker in his earlier days but % not the best. At least that’s how it looks in my head today,could be completely different tomorrow 🙃 There’s still Horne,Simbiken,Rooney and Windley plus the young uns coming through and I’ve a feeling a couple more arrivals departures.
