pirate Be a great start,given his current salary and needing to remain within the salary cap I’d assume he’d be a marquis player. Mat Croker would probably fall into the same category,there were rumours about him last season but he signed a one year extension to stay in the NRL. Be a real statement of intent if we could even get one of them. But if we’re going to go down the Marquis route we desperately need a half back.

It`s a start, just need another 10 or 12 high quality players to join him. At the moment, assuming Amone goes, we have about 6 maximum who are SL standard, Hoy, Rooney, Senior, Quarequare, Lawler & Mellor. The rest would struggle to get into any of the Championship teams.. Two centres, 2 half-backs, and 6 forwards are the minimum we need.

Can’t see any way we’ll be getting 10 players in for next season even though we probably need that many. All of Stueys list have contracts for next season with the exception of Lawler so that’s a decent start. George is one of seven out of contract at the end of the season but the only one I’d want to see renewed, Simms maybe as a squad player. Westy been a great servant but maybe had his time and the rest Milnes included just aren’t good enough. So unless we’re going to pay some off early I’d say six new faces max unless we get some more significant investment. Rooney once fit again is one of the best youngsters out there,Matveyev and Windley are knocking on the door. A couple of Marquis signings would be a dream but that wouldn’t leave much to spend on the rest of the squad. Not all doom and gloom but then you remember who’s in charge of recruitment. 🤷🏼

I’d expect us to bring players in but it’ll take time. The next problem is whose players are they. If they are DMs players then they might not fit should his way of playing not work and he gets the boot. We don’t know if Mr Jepson is a kneejerk reactor or takes advice and takes time to decide. I suppose that’s why Chester is believed to be coming in. Mr Jepson can bring in and get rid of players whenever if he’s prepared to spend the money and we are doing it at the moment to some extent, ala Namo. This is going to take time but it needs the right people to take advice from.

Definitely a new coach. If your up to it McGuire would have least improved the team, which he asnt. We could have the Aussie national team and McGuire would take it backwards. I’ve seen more heart, spirt, motivation and structure down at lock lane. McGuire is out of his depth. He should have started in the championship and work is way up.

Rumour I heard was that he had to put on weight to play for PNG as he wouldn’t get in at hooker. So a backrower/13. Can’t/won’t lose it and the coaching staff aren’t happy. If Mr Jepson is convinced with DM being the man then I can’t fault him for backing him 100%. Powell got the same backing and did well.

Hastings representatives have held talks with Leeds,Clifford’s attracting interest from Canberra and Dodds suddenly found himself back in first team action. If Australian media reports are to be believed first preference for all is to stay in the NRL,any one of the three would be a huge signing for Cas, but it goes to show how difficult recruitment is.

Williams now rumoured to be Dolphin bound at the end of the season which would leave Wire short of a half back,not going to make it easier is it,Warrington in the market with a hefty fee to play with. Doubt we’re in the same kind of market but still…

LoveRL saying today that all players who are not being retained have been informed of this and until the end of the season selection will largely include those who are staying. Plenty to be gleaned from future squad selection then,though given there are potentially 10 going out plus the injured list that clearly won’t be 100% possible.

With our 6 contracted overseas players and Atoni rumoured, it leaves us 3 more. That will probably be for the new coach to discuss with Chester. The right man should have the contacts and/or players that want to play his style of rugby.

The more I look, Carr seems to be the man who fits the bill, but look at Hull and Leeds, they went for experience and it’s worked.

There’s qereqere, seniors, wood maybe simm and tate in the right contracts. In the backs.

The forwards need an overhaul but with the rumoured Ashworth and Lane it gives a bit more stability.

I’m surprised given Chester’s comments that Sarbah hasn’t been brought into the first team squad and that there’s been no recall for Djeukessi and Windley,they look to be the three most likely to progress and could gain valuable experience before next season,add Matveyev once recovered from his injury who has promise. Unless it’s last chance saloon for a couple who’ll play tomorrow I can’t see the purpose in continuing with players who are consistently underperforming and whose attitude has been questionable.

After a bit of googling Michael Crawley, looks the best bet. 12 years coaching in the NRL ,
Watson and Carr have less that 30% win records as head coach
If we are taking a punt we should bet on the 12 years NRL experience

pirate I’d agree with that,an attack minded coach would suit our traditional type of play,Carr has a few things going for him,and is rightly in the mix,can’t say I’m a fan of Watson and not much between the other two,Crawley the most experienced of them all and will no doubt have established some useful contacts over there. Signings market currently very competitive,Wire in particular on the hunt for halves so any small advantage is worth exploiting.

The Australian half back pool looks to be getting ever shallower, Tom Duffy staying,Dodds looks to be getting another year. Campagnolo is a name that keeps cropping up,spent this year in the reserve comp after being at the London Broncos but has earned rave reviews. Brandon Wakeham another who reportedly fancies a go in Super League and has the advantage of being a decent goal kicker. Those aside it’s slim pickings or Marquis money.

Well we have our first signing in Brock Greacen. Looks to be a decent signing, still young and a prop.
