pirate Be a great start,given his current salary and needing to remain within the salary cap I’d assume he’d be a marquis player. Mat Croker would probably fall into the same category,there were rumours about him last season but he signed a one year extension to stay in the NRL. Be a real statement of intent if we could even get one of them. But if we’re going to go down the Marquis route we desperately need a half back.

It`s a start, just need another 10 or 12 high quality players to join him. At the moment, assuming Amone goes, we have about 6 maximum who are SL standard, Hoy, Rooney, Senior, Quarequare, Lawler & Mellor. The rest would struggle to get into any of the Championship teams.. Two centres, 2 half-backs, and 6 forwards are the minimum we need.

Can’t see any way we’ll be getting 10 players in for next season even though we probably need that many. All of Stueys list have contracts for next season with the exception of Lawler so that’s a decent start. George is one of seven out of contract at the end of the season but the only one I’d want to see renewed, Simms maybe as a squad player. Westy been a great servant but maybe had his time and the rest Milnes included just aren’t good enough. So unless we’re going to pay some off early I’d say six new faces max unless we get some more significant investment. Rooney once fit again is one of the best youngsters out there,Matveyev and Windley are knocking on the door. A couple of Marquis signings would be a dream but that wouldn’t leave much to spend on the rest of the squad. Not all doom and gloom but then you remember who’s in charge of recruitment. 🤷🏼

I’d expect us to bring players in but it’ll take time. The next problem is whose players are they. If they are DMs players then they might not fit should his way of playing not work and he gets the boot. We don’t know if Mr Jepson is a kneejerk reactor or takes advice and takes time to decide. I suppose that’s why Chester is believed to be coming in. Mr Jepson can bring in and get rid of players whenever if he’s prepared to spend the money and we are doing it at the moment to some extent, ala Namo. This is going to take time but it needs the right people to take advice from.

Definitely a new coach. If your up to it McGuire would have least improved the team, which he asnt. We could have the Aussie national team and McGuire would take it backwards. I’ve seen more heart, spirt, motivation and structure down at lock lane. McGuire is out of his depth. He should have started in the championship and work is way up.

Hearing Horne on his way out. Was awesome last year but playing reserves now. I think he’d make the right 13 but does DM.

Rumour I heard was that he had to put on weight to play for PNG as he wouldn’t get in at hooker. So a backrower/13. Can’t/won’t lose it and the coaching staff aren’t happy. If Mr Jepson is convinced with DM being the man then I can’t fault him for backing him 100%. Powell got the same backing and did well.

I’ve trawled the internet for footage of Weaver,to be fair there’s not a lot to see,seems a confident bloke,tackles way better than his size would suggest and has a decent kicking game,I’d say superior to Hoy and has a deftness of touch that Asi seems to lack. Wouldn’t be the best running game I’ve ever seen and you can’t really see if he’s got the leadership skills from video clips but he’s still young and has a lot of scope and is coming by his own admission with something to prove and clearly sees Cas as a route back to the top table. If he can show the form over the next 2 years that would earn him a place back in the NRL I’d be more than happy.

Hepworth he can pass both ways which we’ve lacked for a while. Also a natural on the right side meaning the left of Asi and Mellor can stay the same.

As RaoulDuke said passes well off either hand which is a real plus. Only negative is we might have to get him a booster seat for the coach, though the return of the feisty little scrum half be great.

For me we still lack at least another centre if we think Valemei, Cini, Macintosh and senior at a push. Unless Hoy, Taafe or Asi can come in but then it could weaken other areas.

Then a second row as we’ve only got lane and Mellor with backups of Lawler and Stimson.

Personally I think we can cut Hoy and use that space for a really good centre and source a home grown second row.

From Chester’s press conferences, he’s looking to let players go to bring in better but I don’t think it’s possible to get all our problems solved in one off season.

That about sums it up,there are rumours we’re looking at a centre but lack of a quota spot is the issue. Also apparently a hooker and a prop. Of the reserve/academy lads plenty of wing options but nobody to challenge for a starting role at centre. Releasing Hoy could be the key otherwise we could end up with square pegs again.
It very much feels like a new start for us,Leigh and Wakefield have shown in recent seasons that with decent recruitment and good coaching rebuilt teams can be competitive in their first season,let’s hope we can.

Hepworth It’s why i’d be throwing the kitchen sink at Tommy Talau. Not only a quality centre but he’s apparently open to coming over here and wouldn’t count on the quota. He ticks all the boxes.

yorky If you simply watched Hoys highlight reel you’d think he was an outstanding talent and he has the ability to do some outstanding off the cuff things but when you watch him for eighty minutes it’s apparent he doesn’t get the basics right too often.

the highlights dont show the reality, in my opinion he is lazy and doesnt want to know when the games are going against us. We need to offload him and get someone in who wants to play the game

Thing is he can’t pick and chose when he wants to play.
I understand it can’t have been easy for any player in that team, you’ve still got give 100% when you walk on the field.
Most of the players were championship at best, hoy wasn’t, but he went to the other players level, not sure by chose or was just a gradual thing.
If he stays he needs to up his game, his attitude, and he needs to smile more, he always looks a miserable sod.

There is a levelling effect, at work when someone is bringing the magic, it kind of forces you.
When they’re not, week in week out in the grind it’s harder.

That being said for Mr Hoy, who I don’t know, he was moved on from Hull and isn’t particularly en-vogue here, so there has to be an element that is on him. I think I speak for most Cas fans that it matters more the graft is there than being a superstar. Superstars are welcome too!
